The document set provided per shipment
| Document | What it covers | When it is issued |
|---|---|---|
| Mill test report (MTC) | Heat number, chemical composition, mechanical properties, standard and revision the material was produced to. | With the material, before dispatch |
| Packing list | Case and bundle marks, quantities, net and gross weights, dimensions. | Before dispatch |
| Commercial invoice | Commercial terms, Incoterm, values, buyer and consignee details. | Before dispatch |
| Certificate of origin | Origin declaration for customs and, where applicable, preferential treatment. | On request |
| Third-party inspection report | Independent verification to an agreed scope (dimensions, PMI, visual, documentation review). | On request, coordinated before dispatch |
Field by field: what a titanium MTC contains
A mill test report is a certificate of the material's actual recorded properties, not a marketing document. When you review one, these are the fields that decide whether the delivery is acceptable.
- Heat number / melt number. The link back to the actual melt. This is the field that makes everything else traceable; if the heat number on the MTC does not match the marking on the material, stop and query it.
- Standard and revision. The specification the material was produced to — for example ASTM B265. The revision matters: acceptance criteria have changed between editions.
- Grade / UNS number. Confirms the grade and removes any ambiguity between ASTM and GB designations.
- Chemical composition. The elements controlled by the specification, with the limits and the actual result. For interstitial-controlled grades the oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen figures are the ones that matter.
- Mechanical properties. Tensile strength, yield strength and elongation from the test piece, with the standard's minimums alongside.
- Condition and heat treatment. Annealed, as-rolled or solution treated and aged, as applicable. For Grade 5 this changes the strength considerably.
- Dimensions and quantity. What was measured and what was certified.
- Statement of compliance and signature. The mill's declaration and the authorised signatory, which is what makes the document usable in your own quality file.

Traceability chain: heat number → lot → packing list
- Heat number at the millThe material is melted and assigned a heat number. All downstream test results belong to that heat.
- Lot identification at formingThe heat is rolled, forged, drawn or machined into product. Where multiple heats are combined, each length retains its own identification.
- Marking on the materialBundles, cases and in many cases individual pieces are marked so the identification survives transport and storage.
- Cross-reference on the packing listThe packing list ties the case marks back to the heat numbers, so an end user can go from a delivered piece to the original MTC without contacting us.
- Your receiving inspectionYou verify the marks against the MTC on arrival. If anything does not match, we want to know before the material is cut.
Third-party inspection, coordinated not certified
Independent inspection is arranged on request and coordinated before dispatch, so that any issue can be resolved while the material is still at the production base rather than after it has crossed a border. Typical scopes are dimensional verification, positive material identification, visual and marking checks, and documentation review against your purchase order.
Production base
Titanium is produced at qualified partner mills in Baoji, Shaanxi — China's titanium valley, where the country's titanium melting and rolling capacity is concentrated. One of the partner production bases we source from holds ISO 9001 certification for titanium and titanium alloy plate. We refer to it in that way deliberately: the certificate is held by the production company, not by TONGKE (CHINA) INDUSTRIAL, and no certificate image is published on this site without that company's permission.
Inspection records as capability examples
We can show a customer what the inspection documentation for a titanium plate or ingot looks like before they order, so there is no surprise at the QA stage. Any example shown is from the production base and is identified as an example only — it is never presented as the certificate for your specific batch. Ask us if you would like a walkthrough on WhatsApp.
How quality claims are handled
If material does not meet the specification or does not match the documentation, tell us immediately and stop cutting. Dimensional, marking and documentation queries are easiest to resolve while the material is still in its original packing, because that is the point at which the traceability chain is intact. The detailed claim procedure, including the timescales, is supplied with the order confirmation — please contact us for confirmation of the current policy.
