Overview
Titanium plate and sheet is one of the most widely specified titanium forms and carries a large part of the industrial demand we see: heat-exchanger tube sheets, chemical reactor shells, pressure-vessel components, desalination plant internals and general fabrication. Most of it is commercially pure Grade 2, with Grade 5 and Grade 7 specified where strength or a specific corrosion duty calls for them.
We quote plate as either cold-rolled sheet (thin, tight tolerance, better surface and flatness) or hot-rolled plate (thicker, more economical per kilo, as-rolled surface). Choosing between them comes down to thickness, the surface the job needs, and the tolerance your fabrication can accept.
Specifications
| Product | Thickness | Width | Length | Supply condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cold-rolled sheet | 0.3 – 4.0 mm | 400 – 1500 mm | 1000 – 3000 mm | Annealed (M), pickled or bright |
| Hot-rolled plate | 4.0 – 60 mm | 400 – 3000 mm | up to 6000 mm | As-rolled (R), annealed, pickled |
| Titanium foil | 0.03 – 0.5 mm | available upon specification confirmation | in coil or cut length | Annealed, see coil & foil page |
Where a figure depends on the specific order it is confirmed in the quotation — please contact us for confirmation.
Grades and standards
Grades quoted routinely: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), 7, 9, 12 and 23. Standard references used for plate and sheet supply include:
- ASTM B265 — the primary specification for titanium and titanium alloy strip, sheet and plate. Grade, composition and mechanical requirements are defined here, and the standard also sets dimensional tolerances.
- ASME SB265 — the ASME version of the same specification, called up where the component falls under the ASME pressure-vessel or boiler codes. The requirements largely mirror B265 but the designation matters on a coded job.
- ASTM B348 — bar and billet, used where plate is rolled from certified bar stock.
- AMS 4911 — the aerospace material specification for Ti-6Al-4V sheet, strip and plate.
- GB/T 3621 — the Chinese GB standard for titanium sheet and plate, frequently specified by buyers comparing a GB quotation with an ASTM one.
The relationship between these standards, including how B265 differs from SB265 and how GB and ASTM grades cross-reference, is set out in the titanium standards guide.
Cut-to-size service
Most fabricators do not want a full 1000 × 2000 mm sheet if the part is 600 × 800 mm. Plate can be cut to your finished size before shipment:
- Waterjet cutting — cold cutting, no heat-affected zone, suitable for profiles, cut-outs and thick plate.
- Laser cutting — fast and accurate on thin sheet, with a small heat-affected zone.
- Saw and shear cutting — the economical option for straight cut lengths.
Tell us the finished dimensions and the tolerance you can work to, and we will quote the cut size rather than the stock size. Cut edges are supplied as-cut unless you specify a finished edge.
Surface conditions and roughness
| Condition | Description | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Pickled (acid pickled) | Uniform matte grey surface after scale removal | General fabrication, welding, further processing |
| Sandblasted | Even, slightly roughened surface | Non-decorative parts, improved coating adhesion |
| Polished / mirror | Refined surface, typically Ra 0.4 – 3.2 µm depending on grade and finish | Visible components, hygienic and clean-service applications |
| As-rolled | Hot-rolled mill surface, scale present unless pickled | Structural and non-critical plate |
Roughness ranges depend on the grade, the starting surface and the finish requested. The exact Ra achievable for your size and grade is confirmed in the quotation.
Regular thicknesses
The thicknesses below are the ones most often asked for and therefore most often available quickly: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 25 mm, with intermediate and larger sizes produced to order.
A quoted example
A consolidated export quotation prepared for CIF Istanbul combined Grade 2 plate to ASTM B265 with matching Grade 5 bar and Grade 2 tube, roughly twenty tonnes in total, under one quotation. Mixed-form packages of this kind are the reason some buyers ask one comprehensive supplier to quote rather than three separate mills.

Documentation
Plate ships with a mill test report traceable to the heat number, plus packing list and invoice. If your QA department needs a particular certificate type or wording — an inspection certificate to a named standard, third-party dimensional verification, positive material identification — state it in the enquiry so it is priced and produced from the start.
